• How does the contest work?

Contestants will build their portfolio by investing at least 5 stocks during the contest time period. After the trading ends, your application summarizing your asset allocation, security selection, and risk management must be submitted. Subsequently, the finalists are chosen by the Global Investment Contest Management Committee. Finalists will present to the judges about their portfolio and investing philosophy.

• When does the contest begin and end?

Invite-only registration begins on Aug 9 and public registration begins on Aug 23. Trading on the "Tiger Trade APP" will begin on Sept 15, 2021 and end on October 30, 2021. Contestants must submit their application form to the Global Investment Contest Management Team & Committee (by email) by 11:59PM EST on Nov 7th, 2021.  The Final Competition will take place between in early December 2021.

• Can I participate as an individual or do I have to be on a team? How many students can be on a team?

Contestants can participate in the contest as an individual or apply to form a team up to 4 people. Please send your application with all contestants name and information to 2021gic@gmail.com

• Can I trade all securities?

No. Contestants are only allowed to choose their portfolio from pre-selected securities or the “White List”.  

• Can I use leverage and short selling?

You are NOT encouraged to use leverage or short selling in the Contest. That said, you can still use leverage and short selling in the Contest. 

• Are winning teams selected based on total portfolio returns?

The judging committee measures the finalists on 3 dimensions: 1) Investment Strategy 2) Allocation and Securities Selection 3) Portfolio Risk Management, and will vote to select the winners. The risk-adjusted return on your portfolio will be taken into consideration, but it is only one of several performance measures evaluated.
